Earth Day: Easy Green Habits

Happy Earth Day!! Take some time to sit outside and admire all the natural beauty today, and while you’re at it, why not start a new habit that helps nurture the Earth as well? We know wanting to help the environment can be very overwhelming, it’s hard to figure out where to start. We all see more negative news on this than positive, does my effort to help even matter? OF COURSE!

Even the smallest habits that help make a difference. And there’s no better time to start than right now!

Here’s a few small green habits that can make a big difference:

  • Make a Garden

Trees, flowers, vegetables, they’re all good! Not only does gardening help the planet, but it also helps you stay active and can be a fun hobby. Don’t give up after the first attempt though! We’ve all experienced attempting something new and falling short– be patient! One task a day is a good start.

  • Conserve Energy

It’s often overlooked– we leave a room without turning off the TV or lights. Or we use the toaster and walk away without unplugging it. Look at all the small things that don’t need to be using energy all day. Make it a habit to unplug appliances that aren’t needed! It’ll make a difference in the long term.

  • Shop Secondhand

Fast fashion is affordable; however, it is far from environmentally conscious! It contributes to carbon emissions, material waste, water pollution, and more. Shopping secondhand is also affordable, and it gives clothes a second chance! Also: secondhand stores are a great place to donate clothes that you don't wear anymore or just don't need.

  • Use Eco-Friendly Products

There are plenty of natural products that are just as effective as name brands. Start small with this as well, trying to switch over everything at once will get frustrating. Pick one category at a time and make the switch! And bonus: VBM has eco-friendly products as well right here on our site!
